Most of the sales I attended this past week were held by organizations. We first stopped by a local church sale where I found some bright melamine plates that will be perfect to use for dining on the deck, Christmas sticky notes and stationery in unopened packages, and two opened coffee filter packages. All for $5 which is a little higher than I would have paid, but it was a benefit for the local church, so I went with it.
And I bet you are wondering what in the world I will do with those coffee filters…they are not going in the coffee pot but between plates to help protect them when stacked.
Before leaving town we headed to a private sale. The older couple was selling their long-time home and clearing out. Not much of interest for a dish lover, but I did find some old and interesting books. I’m a book lover, too.
They were well-loved and well-read as you can see. I loved the illustrations in the Night Before Christmas and in the Shirley Temple book. The Pilgrims Party has interesting line drawings. I think I will make back my 30 cents if I decide to resell any of these, don’t you?
We headed out of town for a local high school’s boys’ soccer team sale. Their books were also well-priced, but I really only bought one to help the cause and because I have read this author who co-writes with James Patterson. Since I was planning my next tablescape in my head, I zeroed in on the beeswax candles with tiny bees on top.
Aren’t those little bees the cutest? You’ll see again them soon. $1.50 total spent.
Ater leaving this sale we headed toward our last sale of the day. Okay, let me just say that I had to carry my first load out to the car and then head back in for more shopping. Yes, the Eagles’ club sale was a very good one. We also ran into some very good long-time friends we hadn’t seen in a while. It was a very nice surprise.
I picked up three dvds and two sweet little storybooks. Three pieces of fabric with palm trees, dragon flies and pink flowers. I thought my daughter would love these designs which reminded me of her favorite, Lily Pulitzer. If not, I see some napkins and table coverings in their future.
I found a Wilton Minnie Mouse cake pan. This one will definitely make it to the reseller list!
I picked up a box full of clear glass plates and bowls with an embossed flower design and eight shell-shaped clear glass dishes. I got a paper bag full of napkins for $2 and then in my second run I picked up another eight white napkins with a flower in the corner.
I can’t resist an interesting cookbook so I picked up these two to add to my collection. I like to read cookbooks, especially those produced by service groups as fundraisers. The Good Cookin’ from the Heart of Virginia has some lovely paintings featured at the beginning of each chapter. Please forgive my blurry pictures. Between no sun and a camera on strike, many of my pictures are not what I would prefer them to be.
This little monkey looked like something my husband would appreciate. For 75 cents, he had to come home, too. I thought he could hold business cards; my friend said he might make a good soap holder. A square candle would look pretty cool, too. Any ideas?
When we were done monkey-ing around, we headed to do some serious errands. We stopped by one of the coolest shops around so that I could pick out some new glasses. My eyes are just not lovin’ contacts like they used to. This shop has fabulous jewelry, purses, totes, and all kinds of wonderfulness. It was hard to stay focused on the task at hand with all the temptations around. The owner is also a dish lover and having read my blog had a special gift for me, presented in the shop’s signature cool gift bags.
It was much nicer looking when originally presented and before I unwrapped and wrapped again. I don’t have the touch that some do when it comes to gift presentation. When I unwrapped, I found these lovelies inside….
The prettiest crystal flower shaped bowls. These babies are heavy, let me tell you. Aren’t they gorgeous! This was such a fun treat to receive! Thanks, Paige! I am planning to use them in my upcoming tablescape so look for them there.
This was a day full of treasures, both tangible and intangible.
I hope to join the parties at Apron Thrift Girl’s Thrift Share Monday, Flea Market Finds at Her Library Adventures, Nifty Thrifty Tuesdays at Coastal Charm, Thrifty Thursday at Tales from Bloggeritaville, and Thrifty Things Friday at The Thrifty Groove.

What great treasures you came away with! I love the old books and the funny little monkey. I don’t cook much, but I love to read cook books too, especially older ones like you found. I’m glad you had a fun, successful weekend. Thanks for visiting me at Cottage and Creek. I’ll be back to visit again real soon.
