Familiar Faces and Places

One thing about going to yard sales on a regular basis,  you sometimes see familiar faces. We stopped at a yard sale and it immediately brought me back to one year ago when the same woman had another yard sale. Last year I didn’t buy anything from her, but her neighbor had some snowman dishes that were just perfect for my friend “S” and her newly started collection. This year, I bought these at her yardsale.

The glass refrigerator containers were hard to pass up for $4. The little handled gravy/sauce container was too pretty to leave behind. She said it was from the 40’s. I can’t identify the pattern. Does anyone know about this type of dish?

One of my favorite shops was having a big sale, part of which included a yard sale of items. I found these lovelies there.

The blue flower was actually a ponytail holder. I think I can work it into a necklace.

Another sale had these brass sconces. I thought the design on them was interesting and for yard sale prices I can paint them should I decide to do so and feel no pain. The Halloween spreaders are for my daughter who loves everything Halloween.

A sale advertised as “huge” turned out to be not so huge. I did find a Wilton pumpkin cake pan for my Halloween lovin’ daughter and a heart picture/note holder.

A local high school’s band was having a huge yard sale and their sale really was huge. I managed to find some treasures there as well.  The best part was everything was half-off by the time I stopped. It was a super hot day and we had our Scotties along so I had to do a quick scan and shop since they were quite ready to head home to the air-conditioning.

The vintage metal picnic basket has seen better days, but was too cute to pass up. The two cheese domes will one day be transformed into something special courtesy of the wonderful ideas I have seen in blogland. The amber swan was so sweet and priced just right to come home with me. When I saw the box of German vocabulary words, it reminded me I need to brush up on my German. Maybe I will choose a few cards each day to help me practice.

I found some interesting vintage jewelry and another lidded Atlas canning jar all for just $4 at a yard sale just down the street. I’m particularly fond of the earrings with the crown design. I hope I can find a cute way to repurpose them.

We did a lot of traveling this day from sale to sale stopping at some familiar places. It was a fun day with lots of treasures found.

I hope to join the parties at Flea Market Finds at Her Library Adventures, Apron Thrift Girl’s Thrift Share Monday, Thrifty Treasures at Southern Hospitality, Nifty Thrifty Tuesdays at Coastal Charm, Thrifty Thursday at Tales from Bloggeritaville, and  Thrifty Things Friday at The Thrifty Groove.

As I have been trying to downsize a little, I didn’t go to one single garage sale all summer. Maybe because it was too hot. 🙂

  24. Kathe says:

I have been resisting buying any more cheese domes but gosh they are so darn cute and when you can get them for a good price, I say why not 🙂 Looks like you had a lot of fun and got some nifty things.

  25. Madison says:

Wow! You got loads of goodies. I’m not sure what the gravy/ sauce container is. I’ve seen something similar but without the pouring spout. It was called a soup bowl. I found a link to it. http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/second-hand-homeware-and-collectables/803824

  28. dianne davis says:

I am so jealous of those refrigerator containers and the price you paid. I have been collecting them for several years and have NEVER paid $4. Good for you! Dianne

  29. Sherry says:

I have been enjoying yard sales by reading about what others have found this year. I have not been to many this year but I think your post has inspired me to try a few this week before it is too late.

  30. Lauren says:

What a great price for those refrigerator dishes! They’re often rather expensive (as are those metal plaid picnic baskets). My grandmother has two of the amber swans. She has quite the collection of amber glass–all bought new!

P.S. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  31. Lauren says:

OH you had such a great shopping trip!! LOVE the refrigerator containers . . . $4.00??? Wow! and the vintage jewelry is definitely a favorite for me!

  32. I am in love with the vintage metal picnic basket. I am a picnic basket junkie! Fortunately we like to picnic – a lot

  33. I don’t mind a little wear on vintage metal items, so I think your picnic basket it swell! It would mafe a great centerpiece for a spring party too!
